Words can not express the loss and pain we all feel at the loss of Gaga, an institution in our lives and an institution in Carlow. There was a lot of talk in recent days of living a life in love. Anybody that knows our family will know of our close familial bonds, facilitated by our patriarch Gaga Mikey. As children his morals were stamped on us, not realising at the time the great noble life lessons we were being taught. He shaped our personalities in many ways, in his own quiet, supportive and most of all loving way. He was hugely aspirational in providing the best life he could for his wife, children and grandchildren. In recent years he appreciated the love and experience of having two great grandchildren, which we are all delighted he lived to enjoy. Though we have all had our hearts broken, and a cornerstone of our lives taken from us, he in many ways will live on for generations. Mikey taught me gratitude. I am most grateful for the gifts he has given me. Selfless giving of his time talents and love. Today I am grateful for the seventeen priests and the Bishop who attended and celebrated the service yesterday, as he had a strong allegiance to his faith. I can offer my heartfelt gratitude for the choir of approx 150 members that came to the Cathedral, a choir of friends of ours and friends of Gagas, conducted by our family friend Mary Amond OBrien. He would be humbled by such altruism and love. I am grateful for and overwhelmed by our extended family and friends who attended the wake and masses, many of whom travelled long distances. Even though some didnt know Gaga, this was a demonstration of their love and respect for us as friends and will never be forgotten. When saying our goodbyes, the most important thing I wanted to say to him was Thank You Gaga for the life he provided for all of us. Thank you Gaga for shaping, inspiring and nurturing us.You have given us the gift of music. We will all love you forever, your legacy will live on. I was lucky to have Gaga (in his ever supportive, proud and loving role) attend the last show we staged in the GB Shaw. To me, he was the person I wanted most in the audience, the person whose approval I craved, yet could always be sure of,regardless. The message of that show was summed up in some of the final lines Walking. I am listening to a deeper way. Suddenly all my ancestors are behind me. Be still, they say. Watch and listen. You are the result of the love of thousands. He lives on, in us. He will live on in our children, and in their children.
