Work permits reopen by January’s end – GCC chambers to discuss labor next week 382936MOILogoKUWAIT: Following a two-week suspension for annual inventory reasons, labor departments all over the country will resume receiving work permits and visa applications by the end of the month, according to informed sources. The previously announced date to reopen recruitment, which was originally set for the beginning of the year, was delayed pending the Manpower Public Authoritys board of directors decision, Al-Anbaa daily reported yesterday quoting the unnamed sources. The board of directors is yet to holds its first meeting - which is slated for later this month. The sources stressed meanwhile that the only transactions suspended were work permits and visa transfers, while other transactions including government projects had never stopped. Meanwhile, Secretary General of the GCC Chambers of Commerce Union Abdul Raheem Al-Naqi said he would recommend forming a special team to discuss labor issues in GCC states and pointed out that the team would meet next week to schedule its first official meeting. He added that the team would determine various concepts and standards to be used on cooperation between the private and the public sectors to avoid the problems resulting from bringing expat laborers to GCC states.
