Working doctors needed - a request from my colleagues in RIBI International Resource Group Doctors, have you thought about using your clinical skills in voluntary work overseas? If so, why not contact the Rotary Doctor Bank in Great Britain & Ireland. This organisation shares the Rotary ideals of a non-political, non-sectarian service by providing medical and health care to people in need in developing countries. Most of the work is in the African countries of Malawi, Rwanda, Zambia and Uganda but assignments have also taken place areas such as Nepal and Kiribati (formally the Ellice Islands). The Rotary Doctor Bank maintains an active register of volunteers whose skills are matched with the requirements of hospitals and clinics, assists the volunteer with documentation and making the necessary arrangements for travel. There are no age limits but all volunteers are required to be clinically competent and fit enough to work in the hot and often challenging environments. - A typical assignment will be for four to eight weeks but occasionally are shorter. - It is accepted that doctors who are still working will only be able to spare 1-2 weeks at a time. More details are available from the Hon. Chairman Rtn. Dr. Arthur Knight ([email protected]) rotary-site.org/index.php?SiteID=297
