#Worship leaders: In planning your sets this week present a balanced diet of adoration, praise, thanksgiving and declaration. Each is different and forms our hearts in different ways. Presenting these different themes expose us to new facets of Gods heart. Thanksgiving, for example (healing, salvation, etc.), is vital to our offering but when too heavily emphasized it can become self-centered. Worship can quickly become about me - what God has done for me. Again, an important truth but unhealthy without the balance of an expression of simple adoration. I believe many have strong opinions about what worship (styles) they like/dislike because theyve been trained to believe the music is for them. Singing various themes in worship not only shows us different aspects of Gods heart it forces us to show Him various portions of our own. We all have our favorite facets to show off to Him and those wed like to avoid. Maybe we love singing about His sovereignty and Holiness but because of our earthly father have difficulty singing about trusting Him or being healed by Him. Well rounded worship makes us go there and confront those insecure strongholds in our souls. And while were at it I think its completely okay to have styles of worship we prefer. Yes, I said it. BUT (and a big one at that) we cross the line when we fold our arms and disengage because of preference. If worship is really about God and pleasing His heart then our preference needs to take a back seat to the fact of the worth of His glory. Its my preference to worship in seasons of plenty and comfort but very often the sweetest sounds come from a soul found in the fire.
