Worshiping God with music is actually a very intellectually - TopicsExpress

Worshiping God with music is actually a very intellectually stimulating exercise for me. To consider what is actually going on to initiate this feeling of wanting to praise God is actually a method of stimulating further the desire to praise. So here I am in the middle of a worship service. I see people lifting their hands, I hear the beautiful melody, and see the amusing lights. Suddenly, I begin to ponder that which is physical in this service. We have fluctuations in air pressure, photons, hearts that are beating faster, and any number of physical things that are a part of this time of worship. Isn’t it interesting how these physical things help us to engage in a spiritual practice? It is here that we see a beautiful interface between the physical and spiritual, material and immaterial, unconsciousness and consciousness. I also consider the nonphysical things that initiate worship: the fact that Christ died for my sins, the fact that God is omnipotent, and sovereign. What a grand designer is he that can link the physical and spiritual in such a complex and interesting way. Surely he is worthy of praise. What is interesting is that you can view this physical attribute of worship as that which makes God a delusion. The atheist will see all of the people lifting their hands to God and conclude that they are Christians because of the emotional high that they get from worship. Their emotions cause them to be delusional. You can decide to think like this, however, I have chosen to think of the physiological/psychological components to worship not as delusional, but as a beautiful demonstration of what the Bible teaches. The Bible tells us that our bodies are important and that we should honor God with them. It should then be of no surprise to find that worship has a very strong physical element to it. I have a feeling that what I just wrote was rather deep and somewhat confusing. Let me know if this is so. :) (I feel like I could use some more thought on it myself)
