Wow. A paper suggesting that a compound in Monsantos Roundup - an herbicide commonly used in wheat, soy, corn, rice, canola, alfalfa, and sorghum crops - inhibits enzymes that are necessary to many metabolic processes (CYP), and harms beneficial gut bacteria necessary for proper immune function. The compound is glyphosate, and this paper implicates it in obesity, gastrointestinal disorders (including celiac disease and gluten intolerance), diabetes, heart disease, depression, autism, infertility, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. Pretty damning stuff. Id like to see more science on this, but getting the funding might be a problem, given Monsantos reach. There is a backlash in the press against this paper, most of it seeded by the agri-giant, from what I can tell. Nothing I can find in other peer-reviewed journals refutes it, however. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3945755/
