Wow. I used to compete in slow-ride and patterns. I wish our culture valued accuracy and skill over bluster and speed. These skills directly translate into higher safety on the road. Though I will admit... Once upon a time - I was being tailgated down a busy city back street (Circa 1980) and a jerk nearly bumped me at two stop signs. So at the next sign, I came to a full stop, looked around and made a left hand turn. And had a cop right behind me flashing. I pulled over. 1. Slightly taken aback that it was a girl. 2. Irritated to find the bike was not a loaner. Then began the real fun. Im writing you a ticket. For what? You didnt stop. Yes I did. No you didnt, your feet never touched the ground. (I picked up both feet and balanced the bike with no quivering.) I dont have to. (This is not me being argumentative, just autistic.) Still got the ticket with a lecture about being a smartass. 30 some years later, I still think he was wrong. Delaware handbook just said I had to come to a complete stop. Ive seen folks coast through a stop dragging their feet. Apparently thats legal. They need a better definition with both actual cessation of forward movement and feet on the ground. Pppppbbbbtttt!!!!! Just tell me the rules folks. Im more than happy to obey them. If not, Ill work to change them. But at least be accurate with the guidelines.
