Wow. Its hard to believe that I only have 5 more work days, then my 23 year career at Balboa Life and Casualty, which was owned by AVCO/Textron/The Associates/CitiGroup/Countrywide/Bank of America/QBE North America (yeah, I had survived several sales of the company) will officially end. So far I have had a small number of interviews. However, I still have my sights set on one particular job - of which I am hopeful they will finally grant me a first interview any day now. When I finally learn whether my target job is a good fit or not, then I can earnestly plan my next steps. I feel good that I am leaving my job in good hands. I have worked closely with the people that are assuming my responsibilities in hopes that after I leave the company will not stumble or struggle too much. The companies decision to outsource all of IT (and lots if other areas in the company) was bit a personal decision, they didnt do this because we were less than stellar at our jobs - this is not a punishment - it is simply business. The outsourcing, at least on paper, is cheaper than we were. I get that. I also cannot blame the people replacing us. They are just new people being brought in to fill our shoes, without our business knowledge nor our experience dealing with our very complicated software systems. This whole thing will be difficult for everyone involved, including the employees that had not been outsourced - they will continue to say goodbye to more friends as the company continues to restructure and their jobs are also not the same. Change is the flavor if the day for all if us. So, with the end so close, Im still filled with hope. Hoping that I find another job that I will LOVE as much as I did this one. Hoping that I wont have to sell my home and move. Hoping that my new employer is either close, or I can continue to work from home. Hoping that all of my friends will be okay through these changes. Hoping that after this week I will stop worrying that my current work project, which I have worked on for the past 18 months, will not suffer after I leave and the new people will be able to implement it smoothly in a couple of months. There is lots to be hopeful for.
