DJ PIERRE: QUESTION: Is EDM hurting the underground dance music scene?ANSWER: That’s the debate of the age. One which I don’t normally get into because I think it’s garbage. The only issue I would have with EDM is people treating it as though it’s a separate entity from the Underground from which it came. It’s House music made more commercial. So I don’t see the argument. If you know your history you know that a lot of what you hear today came from Chicago with House, Detroit with Techno, UK with Garage and the explosion of Acid House. Daft Punk named their TEACHERS, of which i’m very happy to be a part. So that says something. The underground will always be. There will always be a remnant of the mainstream fighting for something different. Mainstream is very much the same thing chewed up and spat out again. The Underground is where I am but I am able to appreciate some aspects of Mainstream and contribute some substance to it. I think this is why artists who are in mainstream EDM will want to work with people like myself. We add substance. We help validate. We should be to co-exist. I don’t mind playing a Tomorrowland and Tomorrowworld here in the USA and stepping out there a bit. It’s about being able to reach your crowd at that moment while still staying true to who you are. So both sides can reach a middle ground. Things tend to come back around to the beginning anyhow
