Wow! We got home late last night from our amazing vacation to Italy and Greece! There is so much history and beauty in the places we were able to see. Walking the streets of Rome and Venice was like stepping back in time. Buildings that have been here for thousands of years are still used today. Our hotel in Venice was built in the 1400s - Christopher Columbus could have stayed there LOL!!!! The cruise to Montenegro, Athens, and several amazing Greek Islands was everything I hoped for and more. We made some great new friends from around the world, and it was touching to see so many families enjoying their vacations just like us, talking in their own languages - seeing toddlers speaking in their native languages was priceless! Going to Bolzano, Italy in the Alps was an adventure. The main languages are German and Italian, and there was no English whatsoever!!!! It was challenging to find our way around town and at the train station, but it was such a beautiful place - I saw Gods handiwork everywhere I looked! The only bad experience we had was on the second day of our trip in Rome. Keith was the victim of professional gypsies (according to the police) when he got his wallet stolen out of a front pocket that was shut with velcro! We had just bought a ticket to take the bus to the Vatican, and when he stepped on the bus, a big group of people came out of nowhere and swarmed him. Next thing I knew, he had a look of panic on his face, and he told me his wallet was missing. We jumped off the bus, and went looking for it, but it was long gone. It was an incredibly scary and helpless feeling as we realized almost half the euros we brought with us was missing, along with his license, credit cards, and debit card. The police looked sympathetic, and even guessed the bus number we were getting on - apparently it is an everyday thing on that particular bus - lots of tourists. We were able to cancel all of our cards, and luckily I had brought my debit card, which has a different number than Keiths, so we were still able to buy a few things and take out any other money we needed. The police station was full of other vacationers who had similar thefts. One poor girl from Germany had her entire suitcase stolen off the bus before she was able to get off! Once the shock wore off, we realized it was another piece of our story - who else can say they were the victims of gypsies!!!! We guarded our passports and my debit card like they were pure gold for the rest of the trip! It was a once in a lifetime experience, and Im so glad I got to share it with my sweet husband, and that we safely made it back to our precious home. God is so good :)
