Written by - Pastor William Ilnisky THIS WEEK WE WILL TAKE A JOURNEY THROUGH THE OLD TESTAMENT PROPHECIES AND HISTORICAL WRITINGS CONCERNING JESUS AND HIS PURPOSE IN COMING TO EARTH. I AM DOING THIS BECAUSE I WANT YOU TO SEE HOW GREAT GOD IS AND HOW FAITHFUL HE IS IN KEEPING HIS PROMISES. In a book I am reading, the author says that for 10Old Testament prophecies to be fulfilled the odds are only 1 chance in 97,656 trillion. He continues to say that it is mathematically impossible that men making predictions about the future could have written the prophetic books of the Bible without supernatural assistance and inspiration of God. Scripture: ZECHARIAH 9:9 AND MATTHEW 21:1-10 Meditation: THE MESSIAH WOULD ENTER JERUSALEM ON A COLT Zechariah was written in the sixth century BCE. The first 8 chapters consist of miscellaneous visions and are referred to as First Zechariah. Then, starting with chapter 9, it contains apocalyptic messages. Here, we have a prophecy written about 540 years before it is fulfilled. What are the chances that something written that far ahead of when it is supposed to happen would happen exactly like it was predicted? Lets examine some of the issues here that had never happened before. No king would ride on the colt of a donkey that had never been ridden before. Nor would a king ride a donkey. He would ride a horse to show his authority. Here we see how much Gods ways differ from mans. Men looked for a conquering king, high and exalted, to come with an army of men to deliver Jerusalem. Instead, they saw a meek and lowly Rabbi riding upon a donkeys colt, a prophecy being fulfilled exactly as God spoke it to His prophet. He was followed by a crowd of rejoicing peasants. He didnt look like a conqueror. But by riding into the holy city in this way, Jesus declared Himself to be the Messiah and Savior ready to go to the cross. History tells us of no other King who entered into a city conquered it riding on a donkey. Alexander the Great who was conquering the area at that time, always entered the city on a white horse with his army to show who was the greatest. But, the One who came into the Holy City riding on the colt of a donkey, a week later conquered mans greatest enemy, death! So, who is the greatest? Life Application: Find at least 3 outstanding things about this prophecy and its fulfillment that really speak to you to build your faith in God. Praise/Prayer: Dear Father, your ways always amaze me. When I search Your written Word, the Bible, and discover how You keep the word You spoke to the prophets, especially when hundreds of years pass by, I am staggered. I realize that this can happen because You are the same, yesterday, today and forever. My never-changing Father. Amen!
