Read 2 Peter 3:10-18, Jeremiah 5:20-25 June 8 "As a Thief in the Night" “Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.” 1 Thessalonians 5:6 (NKJV) Like it or not, we are all terminal. We are living day by day lives on loan from God. Many of us will never know when we are waking up to our last day on this earth. The good news is that God has prepared a way for all of us to have victory over death no matter when it comes. When we receive God’s wonderful gift of eternal life through believing in Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord, we receive victory over the grave. The sting of death was suffered for us by Jesus at the cross. Whether we are talking about preparing for our going out of this world, or for the day of the Lord”, when He comes to destroy it makes no difference. The preparations are the same. We must stay ready! Holy transformation provides the obedience and perseverance required for us to be ready to escape the wrath of God on judgment day. As we grow strong in the Lord by trusting in His strength to cover our weaknesses, we will find God’s daily manna of grace keeping us safe and secure under the shelter of His wings. Our faith should be a living, growing faith, always awake to the teachings of Scripture and the leading of the Holy Spirit. The world, our flesh, or the devil are continually seeking to distract, discourage, and dull us by lulling us into the sleep of complacency and dreams of doubt. We need the full armor of God and the encouragement and fellowship of other believers to keep us ready for that “thief in the night”. Lord, guard my heart by the power of the Holy Spirit, that I not be caught napping when the thief comes. In Jesus’ name, Amen. homilygrits/
