X-Men: Days Of Futures Past... Superheroes go back in time... Now stop thinking! Just take that premise on face value and you have, hands down, Marvels most entertaining film yet. Seriously, dont try to read into plot details or logistics, because your eyes wont stop rolling and you may end up losing 2 or 3 IQ points. Just get down on your knees and praise the gods of Asgard that we have the best X-men movie since... well... X-Men: First Class. From its very opening, aside from a rather clunky As you well know... exposition drop, this is a film that just hits the ground running and never lets up, delivering one perfectly executed action set piece after the next, a fair share of belly laughs (sorely missed from the last few instalments), fully realised, emotionally engaging character arcs for both Mystique and Charles Xavier (again kind of squandered in First Class, as much as I love it), probably the best edge of your seat climax youll see in any film this year and, of course, Quicksilver. I cant begin to tell you about how much I enjoyed the Hell out of this character, but I will say this, Aaron Taylor Johnson, I dont envy you. But probably the biggest achievement of this film is... again, I cant say. Even though youve probably heard a, somewhat vague, spoiler or two from anyone who has seen it at this point. Im not going to dare ruin this breakthrough in the series for you. His personal (or legal) troubles aside, Brian Singer has single handedly proven to be a driving force behind much of what is awesome about this franchise and even though First Class does, for now remain, my personal favourite in the series, it was great to see one of the finest mainstream directors in Hollywood finally getting his groove back after one or two previous mis-steps (and I dont include Superman Returns as one of those mis-steps). In summary, go see it! Dont think about it! Just enjoy it! 4.5/5 :)
