XPRIZE has announced the $15 Million Dollar Global Learning X Prize. The idea is to develop a tablet based software that can take a pool of kids in a village anywhere in the world, from illiteracy to full reading and math in 18 months. Sugata Mitra has already proven that kids can learn at an amazing pace even without teachers, as long as the right tools are available. And cheap tablets are going to be so commonplace within 10 years most kids in India or African villages will have access to them. Were talking tablets under $100 that last 1000 hrs on a single charge. The question is - how powerful will the software be in terms of teaching methodology. Weve innovated on hardware, but how can we create a radical jump in the power of the teaching method? This is the challenge that X Prize is trying to solve with this challenge (and possibly 1000 teams from around the world competing). Check out this video below by Peter H.
