Xtreme 2014 Season Final Statement Player Achievement Awards All Star Team Nominees 2014 Fellas, the 2014 season has been a wild ride to say the very least. We played a full league game schedule, the playoffs, and then the Championship game. We went a long way in a short time and did it the right way. Congratulations to you all!!! First I would like to thank everyone involved with the 2014 Xtreme football organization this season. The players and the coaching staff without all of you none of this teams accomplishments would have been possible. Your combined dedication and hard work together as a group propelled the Xtreme to our bid in the Championship game. Next I would like to thank our great volunteer staff, whether behind the scenes and or on the field game days. These folks make it happen. We appreciated all that you did for this team. Special thanks to the Gatorade gals and the concessions folks. Next I would like to thank our super fans who came out in fog, pouring rain, and cold weather to root for the Xtreme and support their family and friends. Your presents at games lifts our players emotions and lets them know their appreciated. We thank them all for their loyal team support. We started out last year doing individual and group workouts for the upcoming season back in late August of 2013. At that time we were thinking about putting in another traditional 11 man season together for spring 2014. Somewhere along the line we switched gears and got our current 8-man team started and we began to learn a new playing format and to work together with less bodies on the field. We soon learned volumes about player character, work ethic and player commitment or in some cases the lack of it. Players that were on board for the long haul began to emerge as the weeks and months past. We practiced and played through some of the worst weather I have ever witnessed at both practices and games in nearly 20 years of coaching. Nasty...... We learned about the new 8 man game variations, the high speed, the high scoring, the high excitement and the fun without giving up any of the kick ass smash mouth hitting or bang bang scoring plays we had always known before. Its a great fun game. We joined the new NW 8 Man Football League in December and set our sights on March and the season kickoff. We have transitioned through 3 phases of personnel since the beginning. We registered 47 individual players during that time. We had 27 players present at the championship game in Portland on May 31st. Labeled by me the 8 man experiment I talked to players during the season to keep a pulse on things and of the 47 players registered this season I did exit interviews with 39 of them and only one said he preferred a traditional game format and a slower paced action. Some player quotes were the hitting action is the same as 11 man the blocking challenges on both sides of the ball are the same so much f...... fun tackling is tough but more fun due to the higher percentage of open field tackles 11 man is good but 8 man is great your on edge the whole game its so damn fast I love it game reminds me of the flicks fast and furious or gone in sixty seconds your flat flying absolutely want to do it again next year As in every season we have players that rise up and excel in a given position or group of positions and set the pace for the rest to follow. Sometimes this is done by statistics and other times by progressive on field performance and physical repetition and sometimes just by raising the bar with a good leadership example. The 2014 season was no different. Below are the individual categories the coaches felt needed recognition and the names of the individuals who earned and deserved to be awarded. These top categories were selected by the coaches and represent our combined best opinions. Award get togethers are difficult to organize at any time during the year but with so many things going during the summer its extremely hard and almost impossible to get everyone together to celebrate the Xtreme team and to recognize these awarded players. We have decided to release this message as an email and as a post on the team Face book page (Cascade Xtreme) 2014 Xtreme Team Awards: Most Valuable Player Offense: Markiese Smith (consistent, all around top field performance) QB, RB, REC, Punt and Kick Off Return, scoring 5 touchdowns in 1 game, always challenging his teammates to push themselves to a new and higher level of play, always giving 100% to the whistle sometimes through visible pain. Most Valuable Player Defense: Lua Lemafa (with constant blazing speed and relentless pressure he ignited the defense and the whole team with his high energy attacks, bursting hustle and by his own exciting results oriented performance) playing at just one speed, 150% and to the whistle on every down. Team Leadership Award: Mike Browne (bought into the team concept early and never wavered, he set an example of teamwork on and off the field, the player who did most to propel and guide the team forward always doing far more than his share to better the team, kept team morale and communications flowing and brought many new players on-board) Mike was a positive and bonding force for this team. This is leadership. Mr. DFU Award: Kelly Tangen (for multiple position efforts and excellence on both sides of the ball, adapting and playing where ever and doing what ever it takes to win the game) sometimes to the point of physical exhaustion, a truly coachable team player all the way to the whistle. (DFU: Dont F... Up ) Coaches Special Award: Nate Anthony, Danny Solonon (encouraging other players to go beyond themselves and get the very most from their efforts, to teach, mentor and motivate others and to share his knowledge and experience with his teammates) helping his coaches get the message across. Offensive-Defensive Line Play Award: Jonathon Silva, Ace Leia (almost unanimous player and coach voting put these two names at the top of this category) They came and did there jobs very well without a lot of fan fare and drama, they filled a void in our line play and made us better going either way. Mr. Hustle Award: Rayven Membrere (the title of this award says it all, constantly on the move and giving his very best at all times) motivating others with his actions and by walking the walk, consistently working to make himself better, had perfect practice and game attendance once joining the team, adapting too and overcoming all position barriers, a very coachable player. Tuff Guy Award: Joel Danis (playing through real and measurable pain game in and game out, helping the team to win in any capacity possible on or off the field, getting the job done regardless of personal discomfort) Never whining or complaining to the staff. Most Improved Player Award(s): Jesse Charlton, John Lopez (consistent overall improvement at practices and on the game field measured as an entire body of work and not just a game or two) They were with us from the beginning, and they got better. Most Inspirational Player Award: Micheal Swale (just being around his energy lifts up his teammates, lets you know that everybody deserves a chance to play this great game if their willing to pay the price) A good feeling player, always full of spunk. Its fast its exciting its fun and its real smash mouth football. Players and coaches with other Puget Sound leagues who were skeptical early on began to warm up to the idea and the authentic football action provided by the 8-Man game. We have had many positive indications with this new variation of an old game will catch fire next season for future expansion. Only time will tell as the song goes. Every year is a new chapter in the football legacy book.We all look too and hope for one more season in the sun. When it arrives 2015 will unfold yet another new chapter. Nothing is ever for sure guys. Life takes all of us on unknown and sometimes unpredictable paths. I will keep all of you in the loop as future events unfold. Check us out on Facebook at Cascade Xtreme Football for regular updates. We are adding news pictures to the team library frequently. All of us collectively were part of this special 2014 season and will build on those experiences and memories. Some good and some bad, but always football.
