Todays Verses - (Matthew 14:1-12) The Death of John the Immerser: (cf. Mark 6:14-29; Luke 9:7-9) (14:1). In the time of Herod the Tetrarch (the son of the king Herod who slew the infants in Bethlehem) heard of the fame of Yahshua, (it speaks of the miracles Messiah preformed, even to the raising of the dead) (2). and he said to his servants, This is John the Immerser: (a guilty conscience) he rose from the dead and because of this the miracles are operating in him. (3). For after Herod arrested John he bound him and put him away in prison (the Castle of Machaerus on the shores of the Dead Sea) because his wife Herodiah had been the wife of Philip his brother: (Herodias was his niece and the wife of his brother Phillip) (4). for John was saying to him, It is not permitted for you to have her. (5). And while he wanted to kill him he was afraid of the crowd, because they held him as a prophet. (6). And when it was a birthday celebration of Herod, the daughter of Herodiah danced in their midst and pleased Herod, (7). then with an oath he promised to give her whatever she would ask. (8). And she, urged by her mother, said, You must immediately give me the head of John the Immerser here upon a plate. (the mother of Salome, Herodias, was one of the most wicked women who ever lived). (9). Then although the king was saddened, because of the oaths and those who were reclining together with him, (eating a meal) he commanded it to be given, (to save face) (10). so then he sent and beheaded John in the prison. (11). And his head was brought on a platter and was given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother. (12). Then after his disciples came they took the body and they buried it and when they came to Yahshua they reported what had happened.
