YAMMER Available with Academic Plans beginning April 1 Education customers have made it clear that they are excited about the potential for enterprise social in the classroom. To meet this need, Microsoft is announcing that beginning April 1, 2014 Yammer Enterprise will ship with all Office 365 A plans at no additional cost. Social networking has changed the way people interact – not just at home and in the work place, but in schools too. Education institutions are no longer debating whether online networking should play a role in the classroom. Instead, the debate has shifted to which social tools work best and how to deploy them. Schools are facing increasing pressure to provide faculty, staff and students with the highly connected tools and information that match today’s consumer social networking experiences. With familiar social tools that are seamlessly integrated into existing applications, institutions have an opportunity to improve the way students and teachers share ideas, work together, provide feedback and improve learning outcomes. Features shipped with plans A2, A3 and A4 include: · The option to create a custom design so you can brand the network with the school’s look and feel · Advanced configuration settings that provide overall user governance and content management · Robust security controls that help manage network access and security · The ability to export network data for reporting, retention, and analysis · Advanced integrations including Directory Sync and Single Sign-on FAQ Specifically, which Academic plans will ship with Yammer Enterprise? · Beginning April 1, 2014 we will include Yammer Enterprise with all Academic plans: A2, A3 & A4. There will be no additional cost associated with these features. How will existing customers get Yammer Enterprise once it is available on April 1? · Once Yammer Enterprise is available, tenant admins will receive an activation link in their Office 365 admin portal. Customers should visit the Office 365 Admin Portal to begin the self-guided provisioning process. Is there anything my customers can do to start using Yammer now? · Yes, education customers can start using free Yammer Basic today. Yammer Basic includes basic social networking and collaboration features, along with mobile and other 3rd party applications. How does Yammer integrate with Office 365? · The Yammer app for SharePoint that was released in July embeds Yammer feeds into SharePoint sites (similar to the Yammer web part that is available for SharePoint 2010 & 2007). The Yammer app for SharePoint is available free of charge in the Office Store (public marketplace that you can access directly from a SharePoint site) and it will work with both the new SharePoint Online in Office 365 and SharePoint 2013 on-premises. Look for more news regarding product integration later in FY14. What should my customers use for social networking, Yammer or SharePoint 2013? · Go with Yammer. Yammer will power the social experiences in SharePoint, Office365, Dynamics and Skype. A link in the Office 365 search results page will forward the search query to your Yammer network. o Messaging Enhancements: · User Interface updates to enhance Yammer’s messaging experience including typing indicators, real-time likes, ability to easily add multiple coworkers and more. · Multiple performance and reliability improvements.
