YUM ~ more healthy DIY holiday recipes to make your skin #glow for the #holidays! Thank you for sharing Barleans ! I love DIY beauty products because I choose what ingredients I use to make them. I know if the ingredients are organic, Non-GMO, chemical-free and even gluten-free. Plus, I can use my new favorite essential oils to scent the products! I had so much fun personalizing all the products to exactly what I wanted. Recently I made homemade deodorant, which was a great success. I can hear you asking, but does it actually work? It does! In fact, several of my friends requested I make some for them whenever I make my next batch. Their enthusiasm made me realize that amazing DIY beauty products can be an easy and thoughtful gift, especially during the holidays. There are endless recipes for DIY beauty products, but the recipes I like best all have one ingredient in common: Organic Virgin Coconut Oil. I prefer using Barlean’s Organic Virgin Coconut Oil because it is cold-pressed, Organic, Non-GMO, gluten-free, certified Kosher, and Fair Trade. It doesn’t get much better than that, right? But why coconut oil? Here’s why: Commercial moisturizers often use water as a main ingredient, which feels hydrating to the skin but is really drying the skin out. Coconut oil provides the lasting nourishment your skin needs, especially in the dry winter months to avoid dehydration. I’ve also noticed many commercial moisturizers also tend to contain petroleum-based ingredients which can suffocate the skin. Coconut oil absorbs easily into the skin and allows it to breathe. Trust me, your skin will be thanking you this winter if you add coconut oil into your beauty products line-up! Another benefit of choosing coconut oil as a base in DIY beauty products is that coconut oil contains medium chain triglycerides, or MCTs. MCTs help retain the moisture in the skin and protect skin cells from losing moisture through the pores. Additionally, coconut oil contains lauric acid, which has antimicrobial properties that when used topically on the skin can support against germs. So, the next question I often hear is: what DIY beauty recipes are the best? Since it can be time consuming to figure this out on your own and I don’t want you to waste ingredients I searched high and low across the Internet to find the best recipes. These are my favorite DIY recipes which use coconut oil. They are easy to make and will ensure your gifts are the highlight of any Christmas gift exchange. For an extra touch, include a candle and some Epsom salt for a spa-at-home experience your friends will love. DIY Coconut Oil Beauty Product Recipes: blog.barleans/2014/12/12/diy-holiday-gifts/
