Ya gotta love Rome, we’re so near everything! What a wonderful day Janet and I had. Drop dead gorgeous summer weather that required a drive somewhere. We went down to Earlville (about an hour South of Rome) and saw a production of “The Mikado” and quite by coincidence met up with two Chatham Theatre stalwarts from years past, John Krause and Jane Metzger. On return we drove through Bouckville and the hundreds upon hundreds of antique dealers displaying their wares. Then, of course, back to The Savoy in Rome where we met with some very interesting people: At the bar was Kim Baker, who had peddled in-yup, on a bike-from Pacific Heights, OREGON! and is RONing in Rome before heading off for Coney Island to meet up with relatives in about a week or so. (He says he does about 50 miles a day. Woof!) Turns out the picture of his Great-Great Grandfather , a traveling actor from the 1880s is one of the projections in our current show, “Tumbling Tumbleweeds” at The Beeches. Later on, in the dining room, we overheard a conversation that brought us to laughter. This was a group of 5 movie buffs who were in town for the Capitol Movie Fest, DJ Turner and his wife, Catherine from Ottawa (she is originally from Granada,) Roland Smith from Montreal, Philip Carli from Rochester, NY and Robert Hedge from Syracuse. What got us laughing was a monologue from Philip who was talking about a script that involved a guy buying a “fresh egg salad sandwich” from a vending machine in a gas station. A hilarious bit of reportage.
