Yaesu FT-857D SURGERY SUCCESSFUL Finally I am able to restore back my faulty 7 year old [I bought it second hand] #Yaesu FT-857D #ft857d ham radio #hamradio world wide communication transceiver! It was not pumping out 100/50/20 watt power on HF, VHF and UHF respectively in CW (Morse Code), AM and SSB voice mode. Thanks to all who helped and guided me to repair it here itself. So I opened the radio myself for surgery and bought a dummy load and SWR power meter to measure the power levels. Karan Karan Bakshi VU2YEP [who has the same radio] rightly pointed that the problem must be due to three ceramic filters [in the RECEIVER circuitry which was causing problem in the TRANSMITTER circuitry. There must be some computer logic inside the radio telling it not to transmit if it does not receive]. This is said to be a common problem with this model of Yaesu radio. I emailed to Sam Ruddy of Yaesu UK Ltd/Standard Horizon [ the idea did not come to me until again Karan pursued and told me that they may actually help me]. So I first emailed to Yaesu America and they promptly redirected me to YAESU UK. To my surprise I got a prompt reply from Mr. Sam Ruddy of YAESU UK. He sympathized with me for the faulty radio and promptly shipped the three filters even without a request. Thanks to Sam. Kuldeep Kuldeep Singh helped me removing the faulty filters. He took me to one of his mobile phone repairing friends who used a hot gun to remove the filters [who literally burnt the filters from the top as he did not have a desoldering pump/gun (which I had !)]. Unlike this open surgery youtu.be/fnNK-VFzzaQ, his friend burnt the filters using a hot gun from top! A big thanks to Shri D.K. Purohit Ji of M/S Vspectra Communication Systems Pvt. Ltd. . After a few months of dormancy losing hope I took the board to him. He was kind to allow Alinco Service Engineer Shri Pratap Singh Ji to see if something could be done to the messed up portion of the PCB. He meticulously restored the portion and soldered the new filters into place. Thanks to all who sympathized [ Karan Bakshi Voice Overs Rahul Kapoor Kuldip Bharadwaj Rjv Kumar Rakesh Kapoor Kaustav Saha and helped me in repairing the radio in different ways. Specials thanks to Karan Bakshi, VU2YEP; Ms. Tisha Hayes, AA4HA ; Milorad, YU1EF and Tim Billingsley kd5ckp in yahoo group who further confirmed that if I replace these filters my radio would be OK.] Only wish now is that it remains in its present state without any QRM!! Now I am happy to make a few long distance Morse Code contacts with the following hams: 1. HS0ZLM,Thailand 2. 9M2OUT, Malaysia 3. VK3NUT, Australia 4. F6KNB, France 5. YO8BFC, Romania 6. HA3OD, HUngary all on 14 MHz/ 20m short wave band using an inverted v dipole with a bamboo pole [bamboo pole antenna] #bamboopole. On VHF I made QSO with Manoj Mishra VU2TCT and inside India I contact OM Manju AU1SV special event station from Goa on SSB.
