Yarmouk Palestinian refugee camp, #Damascus, 29-11-2013: Snipers at a regime checkpoint at the entrance to the Yarmouk camp earlier opened fire on a group of residents staging a peaceful protest to demand the lifting of the months-long regime siege there, killing one young resident participating in the demonstration, who was identified as Ahmad Oudah, and wounding another protester. The snipers are believed to be members of Ahmed Jibrils Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine - General Command (PFLP-GC), the Iranian-backed militia which has participated in the bombardment of the camp and helps to enforce the regime siege. Six camp residents, four of them infants, have so far died of malnutrition-related disease due to the regime siege, with malnutrition now endemic. With no foodstuffs (or medicine, fuel or other essentials) allowed into the camp, imams at the camps mosques issued a fatwa in September allowing the eating of cats, dogs, donkeys and other animals in a desperate attempt to avoid starvation. Similar fatwas have been issued by imams elsewhere in Damascus city and province and in other besieged areas across Syria.
