Year 10 students Sam McBain and Mitch Lee travelled to Sydney to compete in the Global Powerlifting Alliance (GPA) World Championships at Olympic Park. Sam won gold in the 3-lift competition (Dead-lift, Bench Press and Squat) in his age division (13-15 years) for 60kg men. In addition he won the overall best teenager at the championships on formula score setting new world records for this division in all three separate events and the combined total (4 separate world records). He also competed in the single events and won gold in the Dead-lift and Bench Press again setting world records. The Dead-lift in this case was the open mens 60kg and the Bench press was in his teenage division. All in all Sam set 6 world records during the competition. Mitch won gold in the 3-lift competition in his age division (16-17 years) for 82.5kg men. He also won gold in the Dead-lift and Bench press single events in his age division. Mitch broke the national record for the Bench Press and set a world record for the Dead-Lift in his age division. Mitchs best results: squat 165kg, dead-lift 200kg, bench press 102.5 (at 81kg body weight) Sams best results: 140kg squat, 183kg deadlift, 85kg bench press ( at 59kg bodyweight) Congratulations to Sam and Mitch on these very impressive and exciting achievements.
