Years ago I lived on the coast and my church decided to build free-of-charge to any person with a disability that needed a wheelchair ramp into their home. Granted our church members were all white and they utilized their time, contributions from their church, workers from their church and some other churches that heard about the project. We scheduled to be a particular home and these homes were owned by mostly black residents. At the white homes and a few of the black homes we went to, the families of those families in need assisted anyway they could, whether it be carrying lumber, nails, holding something, making tea, coffee, water, or lemonade for the workers. But a big portion of the black residents decided they would sit under a tree and watch our church build their sick or elderly ramps. They thought it was funny. So a great number of our worker said enough of this crap and told the owners who had disabilities they would not be putting a ramp to their home and they could thank their family member who acted in such a rude way. Now Detroit is having BIG problems and their expecting someone else (taxpayers) to bail them out. Well Im one of the lowly taxpayers who is tired of helping out when no respect is given. Look at this trash pile. They still cant remove the solid stuff, scatter the ashes, put down grass and mow it afterwards or they expecting the taxpayers to do that too. Some good family or families plants a garden and no one tends to it or steals the produce right off the vine. My Momma use to say: Its dirty, its nasty, you clean that mess up right now and we did it. These people live next door to a nasty house for years and years and dont do anything. In my own house, next door is a foreclosure. I clean that yard up all the time and I call the police all the time and MAKE the bank secured the house. I put pressure on the county to make sure the Bank mows the yard. My neighbors call the police and have gone inside and put up boards, pulled kids out of it and took them to the police or their parents. What Detroit needs to do is clean up their CITY or youll have this problem again, just in a different location.
