Yehudi Menuhin about his yogamaster B K S Iyengar: I never cease - TopicsExpress

Yehudi Menuhin about his yogamaster B K S Iyengar: I never cease myself to be inspired by the sight, by the spectacle, of a man who performs with no instrument. I need a violin to express myself, other people need all kind of instruments, presentation of introductory words. He doesnt even need that. He doesnt need anything except what he has made of himself, what he is himself. Through his body, through his discipline, through his thoughts, through his art, through his purity, and in the best sense of the word through his simplicity, he has achieved a completeness of body and soul, a completeness of balance, completeness of relationship with his fellow men, which leaves nothing to be desired. Any one of us can meet him and feel that we have met a good man and a friend, a kind man, and goodness and kindness do not come without preparation. Without inner preparation you cannot ever be kind, without knowing something about yourself and having made yourself into something worthwhile, because if we do not use ourselves we might as well not be here at all. So Mr. Iyengar uses himself in a way that I think few of us have achieved. Some of us have achieved it in a communal sense, others have achieved discipline in a particular craft or art, but few of us have achieved discipline of ourselves. This is the greatest thing I can say of Mr. Iyengar and his art. (from: Iyengar, His Life and Work, Timeless Books, Palo Alto, 1987, p. 250)
