Yes, Mom, I had a snickers bar for lunch today. Tell me you haven’t done the same thing? ;) It is a lovely sunny day out. I sent bubbles flying off all sides of the building while I wandered around enjoying all the changes that are springing up so fast outside. All the trees have that almost chartreuse green of new growth lighting up their branches, except the trees across the street that run along the side of the school, which are covered in a froth of cherry blossoms. It was a lovely sight, all those bubbles swinging out over the fluffy pink canopies, shining bright in the sun as they made a slow spiral up before scattering across the cloudless blue sky. On the other side of the building a dad and daughter were temporarily waylaid by a stream of bubbles trailing down the sidewalk. The little girl, all of perhaps four years old, insisted stopping to pop all the bubbles with in her reach. Her dad was then indulgent enough to lift her high up in the air so she could pop those ones too. My arms ached just watching, but that’s love for you ;) They finally got every bubble they could conceivably touch, and on leaving the little girl turned to wave a thank you with the hand not secured by her daddy as they crossed the street to find him some much deserved coffee in the little shop across the way. I had bought myself a new bubble wand in my favorite color, but I’m afraid I lost it today. Another little girl was with her daddy in the elevator going up when I decided it was time to return to work. She was chattering away to him another language, and decided mid-chatter that orange and bubbles were an excellent combination and I found myself robbed by her cuteness as she stood there in her flowered dress happily clutching that bright tube of bubbles. Dad looked a little embarrassed, but the kid was too cute and I assured him it was fine. You may consider this giving into bad manners, but I consider it arming the children of Portland with basic survival tools. Every kid needs a bubble wand. Yes, she said thank you. Don’t worry, I’ve still my blue bubble wand at my desk. We’re both bent, broken, and old, but we work well enough ;)
