Yes, condo mania is rampant. Of the 130 towers currently being built in Toronto, 116 (or nine out of 10) contain condos. Whats at risk in this mad rush to develop is not only an overburdened infrastructure, but the loss of distinctive parts of the downtown that give it character. If we saved even one heritage building for every five condo towers going up, Toronto would be far richer for it. But how many candidates in the municipal election are even talking about this?
