Yes, make no mistake, the ubiquitous nature of guns is a problem that will have to be tackled at some point. To ignore their role in these killings is folly, and considering that spree killings account for such a small percentage of the daily, incessant gun-related deaths throughout the country, it’s doubly-so. But the simple fact is that until the NRA is sent a clear message that they cannot fear monger and browbeat us out of our dedication to make the world safer, getting substantive gun control reforms through is going to have to be done at the very localized level, and there are real, tangible benefits from approaching this issue first and foremost from the mental health angle, and that’s good enough for me. …and I hope it’s good enough for you…for now.
