Yesterday, America’s oldest time capsule was opened and unveiled - TopicsExpress

Yesterday, America’s oldest time capsule was opened and unveiled to the public in Boston. The small brass box had been encased in the cornerstone of the State House in downtown Boston, where it had remained untouched for 160 years. The time capsule is thought to have been originally interred by Samuel Adams and Paul Revere in 1795, and was briefly unearthed in 1855. Both onlookers and conservationists alike gazed in amazement at the how wonderfully the newspapers inside had been preserved. Most two hundred-year old pieces of paper don’t age nearly as well - just ask the Declaration of Independence, which is just 19 years older than the documents in the uncovered box. As you can see in this video, the National Archives preservation team has carefully worked to halt further deterioration of this founding document.
