Yesterday HK began to burn the worlds largest #ivory stockpile to send a clear message: ivory is worthless and the trade in it should stop now. Sadly Asia has become a huge new market for ivory and elephants - especially African elephants - whose numbers had rebounded after the 1989 ban on international trade, are hurting bad. At the present rate of deaths we have only 15 years of African elephants left in the wild.
