Yesterday, I finished packing my sister-in-laws clothes to donate to a womens shelter. Brenda passed in April from Alzheimers related complications and now Dons oldest brother is living with his son and daughter-in-law due to early stages of Alzheimers. I would talk to Brenda as I was packing her well kept clothes. I could smell her scent as I placed them in boxes. She was my best friend outside of Don for many years. It was a bittersweet endeavor, as I recognized many of her outfits from fun times together. I reminisced with her with each memory. Most people found her abrasive and hard; I was fortunate to know her soft and caring side, to shed tears with her when she hurt. This has been a tough year and Alzheimers has taken so much from our family and continues to haunt us. I hope a cure is discovered so more families can be free from this horrible disease.
