Yesterday I had surgery to correct strabismus (cross eyes). All - TopicsExpress

Yesterday I had surgery to correct strabismus (cross eyes). All indications are that the surgery went well. My strabismus was intentionally over-corrected so now I still see double (wall eyes) but that is expected to go away within a week. It is still a bit painful to move my left eye so I am keeping that eye closed most of the time. My problem with cross eyes started about 9 years ago and was intermittent. About three years ago it became permanent. About 1 year ago it got too bad for adequate correction via prescription glasses. Surgical correction of cross eyes is usually done with children so my surgeons office has many cute stuffed animals and is decorated with nicely done thank you cards from children. Over the last few years I have gained some understanding of what life is like for people whose eyes dont work in synchrony or who have just one working eye. It is just another reminder to be respectful of differences in other people. We cannot possibly understand everything that forms another persons point of view. I will be very thankful to get my normal vision back.
