Yesterday I had to take yet another post down because I guess I made a comment that came across wrong. My greatest fault is that Im just an idealist who thinks everybody gets me. The post was about the woman who decided to die before she got terminally ill, so that her parents and everyone involved would not have to suffer….Including herself. To leave this world with dignity. I personally dont think that dying from suffering is not dignified dying. Its kind of a slap in the face to 2/3rds of the world population to even say it like this because most people dont have health care and die of wretched things with no ones aid whatsoever. Its hurtful to say that they are all dying undignified. Death is not all that dignified no matter how you slice it....In pain or not. The truth is that I watched my mother die over a years time. It was grueling because I was pregnant the entire time she was dying. The entire, almost 10 months, pregnancy with my daughter, I watched my mother get her leg amputated, lose her mind and have, what anyone would deem as, a low quality of life. But, even in those day by day transactions of horror and dare I say love and compassion, there was a lucid beauty we shared together. We cried and held each other. We prayed together. She was heavily medicated and not very aware 75% of the time. There was a growth I would not have had, and perhaps my whole family would not have had, if she had decided to die. Some of those moments I will cherish forever. I am still on the fence about this whole subject. Although I would never blame or judge anyone for having to make this decision, and I honestly dont even really think it is a spiritual crime to want to die, knowing this information ahead of time, because to me God is a merciful God…still I do question why it is necessary for these things to become public knowledge. Because it puts people in a moral imperative to deal with and think about. The issue is a much bigger issue. How do we prevent cancer? By preventing wars and disunity, greed, selfishness gluttony, the list is forever long? How do we do this? I ask you all. And please, lets all be civil on this panel. I really want to have some intelligent and peaceful dialogue about this heavy subject. I am in need to hear your responses.
