Yesterday, I learned this from scratch and performed it. It went over well, probably because relevance = authenticity. But I like it because of the subtle complexities of the melodic line, and the slight changes he does at each iteration. I notice in this video that I just found a minute ago, that he emphasizes these alterations, so as to show the discerning: See what I did there. Im definitely going to learn more of his material. Ive actually produced two of his tracks as karaoke audiovisuals, one mentioned a few days ago. The other: Girl Least Likely To, which was really a lot of fun, since its about karaoke. Also, when Morrissey is singing a new song on tour and hasnt fully got it down, he refers to it as karaoke night. So for the track in question, I matched the font, screen, kerning, and text wiping from the original 100 DK brand karaoke discs c.1985, as a kind of homage. And the stereo separation worked really well on the audio portion, too. During instrumental breaks, instead of a boring sign that merely indicates as much, I place thematically appropriate slides and transitions. In the penultimate one, I used a stock photo of a female karaoke singer (i.e. the one mentioned in the lyrics). The next photo: a cat singing at the same microphone :-)
