Yesterday I met a youngster from Belgaum who told me how he was cheated by a placement agency located near grace church in my own city of Margao-GOA. The youngster is a diploma in mechanical engineering and was working in a design department of a local factory. He saw an advertisement in the local newspaper of a goan placement firm and contacted the same through phone. He was promised a job of a technical supervisor in a reputed company in Goa for a starting salary of 20k by that firm after taking a registration fee of RS 500, two photographs and his resume. He left his job and came to Goa in search of greener pasture. He was directed to approach a different company in Verna industrial estate by the said placement agency. On approaching the said company he and his friend was given a job of manual packer with less than half the payment that was promised, when he objected and threaten that he will make a police complaint he was reminded by the employee of the said placement agency that he does not have any written proof not even the visiting card to prove that he has ever approached the said placement agency. The poor youngster was in a financial soup as he has left his earlier job. When I met him he was frustrated and was cursing us goans as he felt all goans are cheat. It is really sad that we have such placement agencies in Goa which cheat youngster and frustrate them at the beginning of their career and then we blame these frustrated youngster for taking immoral route in their life. Goa Government and Goa police should keep a watchful eye on such firms and take action against them as such type of cheating leads to increase in crime rates as these cheated youngsters often takes the criminal route.
