Yesterday, I posted a brief view of why Jesus was, and remains unpopular among many people of our world. Its a deep problem. Jesus would not fit into our modern society at all, would He? He went deeper and taught that Ones life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses. It is obvious that Jesus never watched television! We are bombarded all day every day with just the opposite. Our society, in general, says life is all about our stuff, who has the most, who has the best, who has the latest and greatest. It is hard to combat that thought process, even though as Christians we know better. Scripture tells us For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? (Matthew 16:26). Jesus wants followers who dedicate their lives to doing good. We should not only help others along the way, but try and be a worthwhile member of society. God blesses us with many material things, and we ought to thank Him for them. But if we only spend our time taking care of ourselves while providing ourselves with as many material things as we can, we leave others in need. If this is where we find ourselves, we must repent if we want to be true followers of the unpopular Christ.
