Yesterday I saw something that really disturbed me. I was sitting on a tut tut at a busy intersection and a little boy no older than 5 years old came up to me and tapped me on my leg, pointing to his mouth signaling that he was hungry and my tut tut driver swatted at him and told him to go away like he was a fly. I got so mad and had him pull over bought the kid some food and a bottle of water. The lack of empathy really pissed me off. I did some reading and found out in India there is around 18 million kids that live on the street with no parents or documentation, some as young as 3 that are left to fend for themselves. In New Delhi that number is believed to be around 300,000. I did some research and found a cool volunteer program that provides housing, food, education, activities and protection for some of these kids that would otherwise be on the streets. I made an appointment with them today and one of the men that works there is going to take me to one of the centers for boys and meet 110 of these young guys. I might look into some future volunteer work myself.
