Yesterday, I spent a lot of energy dealing with a bunch of nasty, unnecessary crap and some physical problems, so that by the time I got home I was bummed and emotionally exhausted. I went ahead and got busy, though, stacking the last of the firewood on my porch ahead of the predicted storms, watering the horses and doing a few other mundane chores. I then looked up at the by-now-setting sun. It was so quiet, except for a soft breeze wafting through the many budding trees on the farm. The horses grazed silently in the pasture, outlined against the deep orange sunset. It was warm enough I was wearing only a t-shirt. My dog was sitting at my feet. He turned and gave me a curious look, sensing my change of mood almost at the same moment I sensed it. I opened a beer and took a long, deep pull on it. Grateful, I said. Thats what I am. Im grateful. And all bad washed away.
