Yesterday I talked to an old friend who has suffered thru a lot of problems in his life. I sent him the vs found in Romans 8:1 There is therfore no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus! It is a simple message of grace........ He grew up in church and had always heard of what we should not do, but failed to understand that God loves us even when we sin. I believe that many drown in guilt of their past because so little is stressed about what to do when we mess up. So that this wont be too lengthy, I refer you to 1 John 1:8-10. I guess I stress grace so much because I need it so much. We can take a legalistic stand or we can smite ourselves on chest and say, God be merciful to me a sinner. God forgives and He forgets and if we fail to call upon His name and confess to our sin, we become miserable individuals who live a defeated life. In this case, we then become ineffective in our witness. In addition, we need always to forgive those who have hurt us. How many times? Since God is always ready to forgive....I guess that means we must always be willing to forgive. Start by forgiving yourself and go from there.
