Yesterday, I visited a flower-stall. I bought pink carnations & roses with glitter on them. I longed for my vibrance to be mirrored through the joy of colour. I watched the old florist, search for her scissors, tidy the stalks & wrap them up with maternal benevolence. Artistry proved vital to her tired world. Suddenly, I was taken back the long years to when I was 10. I recalled a 1970s tv documentary. A beautiful lady with long, blonde hair cried often at her therapist. Then he gave her a potted plant to nurture. As the plant slowly flourished, her peace too blossomed. One day, when she no longer needed it, she gave her plant away. It took a rose to bring back her smile. - Susan Abraham
