Yesterday I went to a Smith Family Thanksgiving meal at my nieces - TopicsExpress

Yesterday I went to a Smith Family Thanksgiving meal at my nieces house, Chea. Great meal. Thanks Chea. However, I do expect that when you say 4:30 for dinner, its 4:30. I risked my life, being arrested for speeding etc. just to be on time as I am a stickler for people being on time for functions. I noticed when I walked into the kitchen people started to murmur. Im not sure what they were saying, but I thought they said Oh here is my favorite Uncle. Or maybe they were looking at me as if I was a dollar bill or talking about how I was new meat for the card game to follow. One more thing Chea. The meal was only mediocre at best so it looks like you will have to do it again next year. You want to quit only if you are on top and you just arent there yet. So you keep cooking and well keep grading you until you reach the ultimate goal before you retire from the cooking of Thanksgiving meals. As the Patriarch of the family I have certain responsibilities. I must be kind, gentle, and wise to all. An example if you will and I am sure I showed that again last night, as I always do. I did my best to let others be successful in the card games and win a few games. There were those of course that had no mercy and wanted all the chips. A poor display of sharing the wealth if you ask me. Rather disturbing being the Smiths arent normally like that, something changed their disposition Im sure. Outside influences have sneaked in somewhere. We had a new person join us on this night. First time in a family card game. She reminded me of a young Hilary Swank. Pretty, nice smile, glowing face, just a nice person all in all until....Ill get to this later. She was slick. She played her boyfriends chips. Calvins. If she won, she would get the money, if she lost, it was his and he would be branded a loser, not that that would break my heart as he always wins. As Smiths always do, we take them under our wings and teach them how to play, as that is who we are, well until their money is gone anyway. We, as Smiths try to teach them that money isnt everything. You might win or lose some but it is only a game and you are with those that care. Brings tears to my eyes just talking about it. As patriarch of the family it is my responsibility to teach lessons. It was just Cali and myself left in the game and she had a queen. She was all happy and cocking and stuff. She just knew she had won this game......until I pulled a king and that beautiful smiling, glowing face turned all distorted. I thought we were going to have to call a priest for one of those things they do. She became bitter at me the rest of the evening and all I was trying to do was teach her that life is full of surprises and you must always be ready for the twist and turns it offers. I was thinking this as I was raking in the chips of course. Kevin was his lousy dealing self, and Earl was sitting there losing which did my heart good and Greg his neighbor went home penniless which really didnt break my heart either. Moral of this story. If you want to have a good time with great people, and liven up a party, you want a Smith. It is fun, cooking is tremendous, and all is welcome in our houses. We know no strangers and we do care. Thank you everyone for a great evening of food and fun. Love you all.
