Yesterday, Martina was at HMP & YOI New Hall where she met prisoners and staff to find out about the life-changing role that reading for pleasure has played at the prison, thanks to national charity The Reading Agency’s Six Book Challenge programme. The Six Book Challenge has been run within HMP & YOI New Hall since 2011, led by library staff in partnership with prison governors, thus helping reduce re-offending rates by increasing prisoners’ access to employment and other life chances upon release. To date 141 prisoners at New Hall have completed the Six Book Challenge. Martina signed books in the library and handed out certificates to the women who have completed the Challenge
