Yesterday, at the showing of Alices Adventures in Wonderland, live from the Royal Opera House, I said to small niece, who is a big fan of Strictly Come Dancing: Darcey Bussells sweet but always makes mistakes reading the live feed, so look out for that. It can be pretty funny. Sure enough, DB messed up before both the first and second acts, bless her, but the third time was epic. DB, interviewing several small boys dressed as hedgehogs: So, how did you audition to get cast in the ballet? Small boy: We had to bend over and then sort of get in line*. Cinema audience convulses. DB swiftly to the boys: OK, what are your names? Youre all in the show - looks at one in the back. Oh, apart from you - youll go on if someone gets injured. Grown-up looking after boys looks horrified. I am now sobbing with laughter. *TBF this was sort of the dancing the hedgehogs ended up doing, but without knowing that in advance...
