Yesterday my lovely 80 something neighbor called me and said she had to make a Lemon Sponge Cake for her bridge club and had left over dough so she was going to bring over a small one for us. It was frosted with sliced strawberries and I told her how sweet she was to think of us. I couldnt wait until she left to dig into the cake. When I went to take a fork full the cake was too dry and spongy to cut, I felt embarrassed for her and her bridge club. Then I realized that it was a REAL SPONGE! It was her April fools joke on us. My husband called her and said he didnt like old peoples sense of humor and she told him to go to hell. LOL Of course I had to share the cake with son. He hasnt given me the satisfaction of his response. BTW, I am still craving lemon cake. Thanks Dee for the giggle.
