Yesterday, the Culture Secretary launched a consultation on how to eliminate poor mobile phone coverage across the country. Currently in over a fifth of the UK people cannot use their phones to make a call, making life and business difficult for people living in rural areas. We aren’t prepared to let that situation continue. That’s why we’ve launched a consultation on how we can improve mobile coverage and solve this problem. We’ve been talking to the mobile companies about this and they are working with us to find a solution. This consultation will complement the work the industry is doing and allow the Government to hear from the wider telecoms sector, businesses and the public. Hardworking taxpayers have been clear about the importance of effective mobile phone coverage. Our action to improve coverage will help deliver them with more jobs and economic security.
