Yesterday, the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office FACEBOOK page was inundated by posts about a puppy being abused by a subject that had put this abuse on their FACEBOOK page. While we appreciate the many links and comments notifying us of this abuse, FACEBOOK is not the place to report ANY crime. By the time we started investigating this offense, the page was taken down. However, information passed on to the Alexandria Police Department resulted in the location and removal of the puppy from the suspect and the suspect has been charged by APD. I will post their press release as soon as we get it. In this social media age, we need to remember the reporting of a crime needs to be called into the appropriate law enforcement agency. This insures that the crime will be investigated in a timely manner. We appreciate all of our FACEBOOK followers and we believe FACEBOOK is a vital tool in allowing the public to be involved and assist in the law enforcement process. I would like to commend the Alexandria Police Department and Superintendant Henry Wimbley of the Animal Control Section for their quick response to this cruel and inhumane act of violence perpetrated on this poor defenseless animal.
