Yesterday, two things happened that really made me happy that Im a comic book fan. First, during The Flash - theres a very cool easter egg during the train stand-off/rescue; in the background, theres a movie poster for Man of Steel.. which is not only cool, but it begs the question...does the Man of Steel exist in the DC TV universe? Or is he a fictional character in one universe, a real character in another, thereby subtly introducing the concept of the Multiverse to TV audiences? With the successes of Gotham, The Flash and Constantine, the continued success of Arrow, potential new shows about Supergirl, and Krypton, and the slate of movies from the Warner Brothers/DC side of the comic book aisle, things were really starting to even out. And then Marvel drops this mic: youtu.be/eGwuoYKhqx8 How are you gonna make me wait until May 1 to see this movie? I mean the clip is such a perfectly delicious mix of humor and creepy. James Spader as Ultron couldnt be any more perfect. The imagery of Caps broken shield plus the scene with Ulysses Klaw screamed (at the very least) the introduction of Wakanda and the Black Panther! And then Marvel dropped the mic AGAIN: goo.gl/spgXOD - a movie by movie guide of all of their phase 3 films (disclosure - there are some details missing about each of the characters described in each of the movies...not huge...but big enough to be noticable). Theyre going to pull off Civil War in the next Captain America film...which will be the official introduction of the Black Panther...who, along with Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel), gets his own movie in 2017!! Im literally beside myself right now.... The only thing thats trying to rain on my parade right now: columnists who are going to try and discuss the historical significance of movies about Black Panther, Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel and Cyborg. Not only will you completely miss the point with your horrifically limited knowledge and understanding of said characters, but youll miss the significance train by a good 70 plus years (starting with Wonder Woman). The next five years of my movie going life have now been planned.
