Yesterday was a holiday, here in Canada. Victoria Day. Brad was home from work. He cleaned out the car, mowed the lawn, washed the dishes, planted two cedars, taught our 3-year-old how to ride a 2-wheeler with training wheels and how to use the handbrakes while I sat in my lawn chair growing a baby, and taking it easy like the midwives said Im supposed to do with this pregnancy. My favorite job in the world is gardening. I so badly wanted to help trim the shrubs, cultivate the soil, transplant my perennials, and join in all the fun taking place around me. For a moment, I was tempted to resent being pregnant. I almost cried. Can you imagine, favoring the opportunity to play in the dirt over carrying a precious new life within my womb?! Dirt...child....which is more precious? Its so easy to lose perspective when things are not going according to our own plans. I can complain about all the things I cant do with this pregnancy, or, I can be thankful that not only have I been given the undeserved privilege of carrying this babe, but I have a husband, friends, and family who go the extra mile and take over all the chores I want to do, but shouldnt. This pregnancy (and the one before it), allows me to see in a whole new way, the love that exists within the body of Christ. Its humbling to be the one being served, but its also a miracle that can only happen because of Grace, and Im privileged to be the recipient of such kindness.
