Yesterday was a lovely day. It was the first time Laura and I wandered around Amman together with no real purpose. Starting at Rainbow Street we went to the lovely little bookshop Book@Cafe which as the name suggests has a nice cafe with terrace upstairs. Then we wandered down the narrow streets and steep steps down to Downtown. This part of the city is named because it lies in the valley between the neighborhoods of Jabal Amman and Jabal Waibdeh. It is where the local everyday Amman people go to shop eat and wander. There are miles of old shops and stalls and places to eat. Most affluent Jordanians or ExPats tend to go to the Malls further west in the city and it can be both expensive and a little more western in places like Abdoun and Swiefeh but Downtown is a very typically Arab city center. Bustling, lively and really friendly. I even think I may have been flirted with by a smiling Ethiopian in the video below. In our apartment hunting, which continues, we want to live near this wonderful place. We ate in Al Quds (Jerusalem) Restaurant which was old and busy and yet the waiters were immaculately dressed. It is famous for its cakes and desserts. I had a typically local dish of Chicken and flavored rice. It also was nice to sit among huge pictures of our lovely Jerusalem. youtu.be/WQDLtk0nRgQ
