Yesterday was long, in some ways sad but really fairly fulfilling. In the morning to Hatchet House as Jasper faced Evansville Memorial in the 3A regional. The Cats season came to an end. But there was a good feeling. The program is going in the right direction. When you are around people as much as I am around them you either get sick of them or become close. I feel fortunate to be able to hang around with guys that are good coaches, but better people. John, Jason, Jeremy, Eric and Brett were all great and the team was very kind to the old man. Terry Gobert puts up with me getting into a gym two hours before game time and has been by my side for seven years. Then home where my soul mate Melanie has a steak and a hot bath waiting. She also did all my yard work. It is then off to Butcher Arena where the second team I cover regularly Northeast Dubois battled top ranked Barr Reeve. The Jeeps bowed out 69-60 but played the Vikings tough. Terry Friedman and his Coaches have always been great and the Jeep fans have made me feel at home. I taught there when I first moved here in 1980 and yes I married a Jeep. The Jeep players were very nice to me and I have especially enjoyed watching Cameron Riecker grow up. His parents Dr Brian and Gina Riecker are some of my best friends. And on to something that may seem a bit odd to people outside of broadcasting. I always look forward to seeing Kurt Gutgsell. We see a lot of one another especially in baseball season. He is a good man. I always enjoy our conversations. I know if I am in trouble with a broadcast he will try to help me. I have respect for what he does and why. If a High School Broadcaster does the games for the money he or she is not very bright. He does it for the right reasons and he is a class individual and one of the not so many people I know I can count on if I need him., So after 54 boys and girls regular season and tournament games I am done. Well till March 27 and Jasper Softball season and March 29 for the Baseball season. And it looks like I may well be headed back to the Basketball State Championships
