Yesterday was madness. After driving for 5 hours to go from - TopicsExpress

Yesterday was madness. After driving for 5 hours to go from Marietta to Glade Road, I made a foolish decision to keep going north when I saw that Glade Road was a parking lot. Two exits later I found myself going cross country over backroads trying to back track to home. The route on Old Alabama died when 61 was a parking lot and I chanced Bates Road down to Dabbs Bridge. Some tense white knuckled moments later I found myself at North Paulding High School. Although my primary goal was just to get home, I guess that I had an unconscious need to rescue my children. We packed the Clown car with 9 people and would have put more in the trunk if we could have. The little Saturn got us to the bottom of the hill on Harmony Church Road where it literally looks post apocalyptic. We took a vote - walk or find another route. Walk it was. About that time Rick Tumlin rolls up with his big ATV. He takes the bulk of the crew that final mile and the rest of us walk until Jennifer Bell Carroll finds us in her jeep. That makes twice that Ive been able to drive for hours in the snow only to pull up short in that last mile. Regardless, 7.45 hours later Im home safe and sound with my children. Both of our cars are out in the snow, and many of our friends didnt have the same happy ending. Im watching the news now and realize just how lucky my choices were last night. Amazing and tragic day. The kids will have an amazing story to tell for years to come.
